iPhone X Fold

Concept for Apple’s iPhone with foldabe OLED screen technology. Developed for www.foldable.news

Samsung introduced its first smartphone with a flexible display on Wednesday and seemed to pitch itself years ahead of its archrival Apple. Many industry observers noted that the foldable phone represents a challenge for Apple in the premium smartphone market. What will Cupertino’s reaction be, will they follow suit? And what would a foldable iPhone look like?

Foldable.News asked Dutch industrial designer Roy Gilsing just that. At our request, he designed the imaginary ‘iPhone X Fold’, a sleek handset with two displays. The outer display features a 1:3 aspect ratio and the inner, foldable display has a 2:3 aspect ratio.

The device switches seamlessly between iPhone and iPad-mode. It can be used in both portrait and landscape and allows a partial fold, turning it into a mini-notebook with touchscreen keyboard.

Gilsing hopes Apple will design a foldable device along these lines: “It would be so cool to hold an iPad-size screen in your pocket. And it’s really convenient to make calls and chat with a long style phone”.
